In our latest In Conversation we talk with Kitiya Mischo King, chemist, licensed manicurist, and entrepreneur behind the electric brand Mischo Beauty; encompassing five luxury nail lacquer collections and two nail treatments.

Sheena: How did you get into the beauty industry?

Kitiya: From a young age, I’ve always loved all things beauty.  From sneaking into my mother’s makeup to begging my grandmother to let me do her hair, I was destined to pursue some type of career in beauty.  After completing my degree in Chemistry and working professionally for many years, I took a leap of faith and decided to pursue my passion and entered cosmetology school.  After completion of cosmetology school, I entered esthetics school and the rest is history.  I’ve been privileged enough to obtain training and experience from Vidal Sassoon, Aveda and Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa.

Sheena: Why has the beauty/hair industry been a major draw for you throughout your career?

Kitiya: Simply put, beauty is my passion – so I’ve been naturally drawn to it my entire life!  As you now know, I have a degree in Chemistry and I am a licensed cosmetologist, esthetician, manicurist and makeup artist.  While I’ve always loved science, again – beauty is my passion.  It’s always been a dream of mine to combine the two.  The launch of Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer is just the beginning!

Sheena: Why did you decide to launch Mischo Beauty and what makes the brand stand out from its competitors?

Kitiya: During my pregnancy, I didn’t polish my nails for the first six months because the nail polish on the market wasn’t 5 FREE.  Or if it was, it left me less than impressed with bland colors that chipped and cracked, and chunky lacquers that didn’t go on smooth. That is when I decided to take matters into my own hands!  Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer is “5 FREE” which means that the nail lacquer formulation does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP, toluene or camphor – all toxins which should never find their way on your nails.

Sheena: How did you go about creating it?

Kitiya: It started with a vision!  Once I made a commitment to move forward, I created a plan.  The next steps involved searching for a manufacturer, graphic designer and publicist.  It took a lot of work!  From the day I made the commitment to launch, up to the day the brand launched online, was a total of 11 months.

Sheena: Being a 5 Free nail formula is a key aspect of Mischo Beauty and important to your customers.  Increasingly, the average beauty consumer has changed in recent times in terms of their interest/awareness in cosmetics safety – are “safer” cosmetics and nail care products more important to us now than in previous years, and if so why?

Kitiya: Yes, “safer” cosmetics and nail care products are more important!  We now know more than we’ve ever known about the dangers of chemical toxins and the effects they have on our bodies.  We know that toxins found in nail polish can cause some ugly side effects such as nausea, light-headedness, headaches, and more. They’ve even been linked to cancer and birth defects.

Sheena: What is on the horizon for Mischo Beauty?

Kitiya: The current collection of lacquers is currently available on and  and we are working to grow our retail distribution.  Global availability is our goal!  We will continue to add new colors to the nail lacquer collection, along with new nail treatments.  We also plan to unveil a color cosmetics collection of lipsticks, lip gloss, eyeshadows and blush.
